Karibu Nairobi katika kongamano la Umoja wa Kimataifa ya Mazingira 2019*
I am excited to invite you to Nairobi, Kenya, for the fourth UN Environment Assembly in a few short months. As the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment, the Environment Assembly brings together governments, entrepreneurs, activists and others to share ideas and commit to action. The 2019 Assembly will take place from 11 to 15 March 2019.
Global gross domestic product has doubled since 1970, enabling immense progress, and lifting of billions of people out of poverty. At the same time, this economic growth has been fueled by a relentless demand for resources. At no point in time nor at any level of income, has our demand for the planet’s resources wavered. Our take-make-dispose models of production and consumption have had devastating impacts on our planet.
The 2019 UN Environment Assembly focuses on the role of innovation in changing the choices we make and how we consume and produce. Our aim is to provide global leadership and catalyze intergovernmental action necessary for us to live sustainably.
Across a series of events we will hear from the best – leaders in government, private sector and civil society on the innovations that can help us live and work sustainably, address critical environmental challenges and create shared value in the process.
It is clear that multilateralism has evolved and the Environment Assembly offers us a tremendous opportunity to make a positive impact on people’s lives, choices and behaviours.
I hope that you will join us in this vibrant and exciting dialogue to showcase and deliberate on the solutions we need for our planet’s health.
I look forward to welcoming you to Nairobi!
