The role of Circular Economy in the transition "Towards a Pollution-Free Planet"

Event description: The event will set the frame for global action on sustainable consumption and production, exploring how a circular economy can address resource constraints and generate economic opportunities for a pollution free world. Specific examples of collaborative action and policies which enhance resource efficiency, address unsustainable consumption and production patterns and redirect investment for a clean, efficient and circular economy will be highlighted, such as the EU Plastics Strategy to promote sustainable use of plastics and reduce waste. Their contribution to specific SDG targets will be shown, including on promoting sound chemicals management, reducing waste and pollution of all environmental compartments. Panelists will discuss how to accelerate and scale up this action in the run up to the HLPF 2018, linking EU, country, UN Environment and other partners’ initiatives for global impact and transformative change.
