International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress 2017

IETC at the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) World Congress 2017

IETC is organising two panel sessions at the 2017 ISWA World Congress titled “UN Environment Waste Management Outlooks: Opportunities and Solutions from the UNEP Regions” and “Plastic Waste and Marine Litter: Minimizing Our Footprint”.

UN Environment Waste Management Outlooks Session

During this session the Asia and Central Asia Waste Management Outlooks will be launched. The panellists will also present the main findings of the Outlooks already published and of those currently being developed. Besides Asia and Central Asia, the areas covered by the Outlooks are Mountain Regions, Africa, Small Islands Developing States, and Latin America and Caribbean.

Plastic Waste and Marine Litter: Minimizing Our Footprint Session

In this session representatives from government, private and non-profit sector will discuss options to minimise marine litter, a major environmental and public health problem that needs to be addressed now: at current marine dumping rate, there might be more plastic than fish in the sea by 2050.

On day 1 of the congress IETC will also present a short communication on the key findings of the Mountain Regions Waste Management Outlook, which has been published on the Waste Management and Research Journal, Volume 3 that will be launched at the ISWA congress. The article is written by by Ms. Larisa Semernya (UN Environment), Ms. Aditi Ramola (ISWA), and Ms. Claudia Giacovelli (UN Environment IETC), Bjorn Alfthan (Grid Arendal).
