Reporting and Compliance

In accordance with article 26 of the Barcelona Convention and its protocols, the Contracting Parties have the obligation to submit reports on measures taken to implement the Convention and its Protocols. Based on these reports, the meeting of Contracting Parties shall assess the compliance with the Conventions and its protocols.

In 2008, Decision IG.17/2: Procedures and mechanisms on compliance under the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols decision established compliance procedures and mechanisms

The objective of the compliance mechanism is to facilitate and promote compliance with the obligations under the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols, taking into account the specific situation of each Contracting Party, in particular those, which are developing countries.

A compliance committee, was established to implement compliance procedures and mechanisms

The role of the Committee is to provide advice and assistance to Contracting Parties to assist them comply with their obligations under the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols and to generally facilitate, promote, monitor and secure such compliance.
